Eating Bananas And Eggs Together Can Kill You - Myth Or Truth?

You can find anything on the internet, especially a lie!

No matter what your question may be, the internet has the answer. But is the answer correct? Internet can also help to supply the facts needed to bolster your belief. So if you believe that there are pink elephants on Mars, the internet is ready to help you substantiate this claim!

Recently, a question is spreading like a wild fire through the social media: can eating bananas and eggs together kill you?

Anatomy of a question

People ask all sorts of stupid questions on the net. However, this banana-and-egg dilemma catches the eye in an instant. How can such simple and easily available foods be harmful if taken together? Aren’t naturally occurring foods supposed to be harmless? Is this a clash between “veg” and “non-veg” food? Or is it a disagreement between “sattvic” and “tamasic” food? In short, the question is so confidently stated that it might seem to be true.

What’s the big deal?

Both of these foods are easily available throughout the length and breadth of India. They form an integral part of the daily diet of millions of people in India and around the world.

Bananas are rich in potassium, carbohydrates, fibre while having little or no fat. They are an ideal snack no matter what your diet may be.

Eggs, on the other hand, are an excellent non-meat source of multiple vitamins like vitamin A, B, D, E and K. Vital minerals like selenium, calcium and zinc are also present in eggs.

Bananas and eggs – a killer combination?

The burning question of the hour is whether eating bananas and eggs together can result in death.

People who ask this question are not entirely sure what they are asking. Very few people can eat a banana and an egg “together”, unless they want to choke themselves. Moreover, very few people eat only bananas and eggs. Human diet is, after all, quite diverse. So, do the chemicals in the banana and egg form a lethal compound in the stomach?

Fortunately, the entire thing is nothing more than a rumour. There is almost no chance that the natural compounds present in bananas and eggs can somehow combine to create a life-threatening chemical in your belly.

Furthermore, many recipes actually suggest mixing bananas with eggs. Banana pancakes, fruit-egg muffins and banana bread are just some commonplace examples of bananas and eggs coexisting without killing people.

Wait a minute!

This does not mean that you can shove any banana and egg down your throat. Make sure that you examine both foods for signs of decomposition, disease or discolouration. If they smell, look or taste weird, then dump them in the nearest dustbin without delay.

Top Tips For Anger Management

A single moment of anger can destroy what took years to build: your marriage, your career or even your life.

When people think about “anger management”, they feel that it is an attempt to fix something that is “wrong” in them. This makes them wary of learning even the basic strategies of managing anger.

If this is what you think, then it is time to change your attitude.

Anger management tips are not necessarily there to “repair” you, they are guidelines for bringing anger under control before it erupts and destroys everything around it. This anger can originate within you, or it may be a reaction to the anger expressed by those around you. Given the fact that you encounter different people with different character traits every single day, learning and applying basic anger management rules is a vital life-skill which you should inculcate no matter what your age, gender, job-profile or ethnicity may be.

Anger management tips

1. Think before you speak: Words are like arrows, as the saying goes, once spoken they can never be taken back. And like arrows, words can hurt. Instead of saying something you would later regret, take a few moments and collect your thoughts. If you feel angry thoughts crowding your mind, then it is better to be silent, even if the other party is putting pressure on you for a response.

2. Channel your anger: Anger as a force cannot be contained. However, it can be released in a careful and intelligent way. Once you feel you have gained sufficient control over your tongue, tell the other person you are actually feeling angry. Try to do this without appearing to attack them or hurt their feelings.

3. Try some exercise: Physical activity is another way to channel the feeling of anger. Whenever you want to control your anger, go for a brisk walk around the neighbourhood for 10 minutes. This will dramatically reduce the urge to act on the feeling of anger.

4. Take a break: Trying to do anything while feeling angry is a sure way of getting a poor output. So, take a short 10-minute break when you feel angry. Go and sit in a quiet corner. Count your breaths as you inhale and exhale. Inform others that you don’t want to be disturbed during your timeout.

5. Look for solutions: If the anger is triggered by a problem (such as a poor project report or a bad customer review) then the most sensible thing to do is to seek possible solutions as soon as possible. For example, you could try contacting the customer and request more details about the negative review. You can then use this information to make sure that future customers don’t face the same difficulties when they come to you.

6. Don’t hold a grudge: It is possible that in spite of precautions, you still ended up having a quarrel with your colleague. The least you can do is to avoid nurturing a grudge against him in your heart. A grudge hurts no one but yourself. More importantly, a grudge can trigger the next quarrel.

7. Practise relaxation techniques: One of the most serious sources of anger is stress. If you feel stressed out at work or in your home, then you can try doing meditation or Yoga for 15 minutes every day. These techniques have a positive effect on your mind and reduce the urge to get angry.

8. Use humour: Sometimes, you may face a situation where others around you are angry. In such a case, try using humour to diffuse the tension and lighten up the mood. Crack a joke or relate a funny incident. Try to avoid sarcasm, as it may be wrongly interpreted as a veiled attack.

Happiness Is A Good Night’s Sleep!

In today’s fast-paced world, taking care of the bare necessities like getting adequate sleep has become a challenge for us. When the body is deprived of such a crucial health-promoting activity, it becomes a breeding ground of disease. Moreover, it begins to lose its grip on the mental equilibrium.

Now, the latest research done by Gallup and Healthways shows that getting a good night’s sleep is vital in being happy.

The study

Researchers surveyed about 7000 adults in trying to find out whether there is any connection between duration or quality of sleep and the level of self-reported happiness. The researchers recorded the daily sleep schedule of the participants over an extensive period. This data was then matched with how happy the participants described their life to be. This was done by asking the participants to give a number out of 100 about their overall quality of life and general wellbeing.

The findings

The survey found that the wellbeing score for people who slept for 8 hours at night was 65.7. For those who slept for 7 hours, the score was 64.2, while people who got only 6 hours of sleep were scored at 59.4. Thus, people who got 8 hours of sleep every night reported greater sense of wellbeing and happiness than those who slept less.

But why?

Over the past several decades, researchers and medical experts have been looking into the effect of sleep on emotional health. They discovered, that people with insomnia generally reported greater sense of worry and anxiety. Depression was also not uncommon among people who did not get adequate sleep. During the period of sleep, various biochemical processes take place in the brain. Sleep provides you with the opportunity to make necessary repairs, which in turn help to maintain a balanced emotional state. This makes sleep an essential part of having a healthy mood.

5 tips for better sleep

1. Be active during the day: It helps to establish your sleep cycle while allowing you to expend energy. Moreover, physical activity has been shown to reduce stress, which in turn helps in sleep. You can try out activities like swimming and light aerobics during the day. If you don’t have much time in the morning, you can walk or jog in the evening.

2. Steer clear of stimulants: When taken near bedtime, tea or coffee forces the body to stay awake even if you really want to sleep. It is better to drink herbal tea in the evening if you have any trouble sleeping. While drinking alcohol makes you sleepy, it will leave you wide awake halfway through the night, thus completely disrupting your sleep cycle.

3. Reduce stress: The accumulated stress from a hectic lifestyle can also prevent you from sleeping. Avoid stressful activities like watching the news before going to bed. Do something relaxing within the two hours before bedtime. Read a good book or listen to relaxing music. Work on a hobby which you find relaxing.

4. Don’t work in the bed: This helps to associate the bed with nothing but sleep. Avoid watching TV or browsing the web or reading office documents while in bed. Among psychiatrists it is common knowledge that doing no activity other than sleeping in the bed room trains your body to respect the bedtime.

5. Avoid staying in bed unnecessarily: Restrict the amount of time spent in bed. That way, you are more likely to feel sleepy when you are in bed. Don’t stay in bed if you do not want to sleep. Get up and do some activities like reading a book or listening to music.

Kitchen Tips For Beating Hypertension

Hypertension is known as a silent killer. More than the condition itself, it is the variety of health problems which arise because of Hypertension that makes it such a threat to your health and wellbeing. Many people with Hypertension go on for years without realising its presence. By then, the damage has been done – your body becomes the breeding ground for various problems like heart disease, kidney malfunction and even stroke.

In the battle against Hypertension, many people forget just how effective home remedies can be. These traditional remedies are made using ingredients which can be found in most Indian kitchens. These home remedies can help you combat the ill effects of Hypertension. Moreover, these remedies can work with the medicines you have been prescribed so as to give you an added layer of protection.

Home remedies for Hypertension

1. Garlic: This is one of the most common remedies which people with Hypertension rely upon. Garlic is rich in a highly reactive compound called allicin. Regular consumption of garlic helps to bring down high blood pressure and reduce the intensity of associated symptoms like dizziness and blurred vision.

· Take two cloves of garlic and beat them into a thick paste.
· Pour the paste into a cup of lukewarm milk and mix well.
· Drink this once in the morning and once at night.

2. Lemon: Having lemons in your daily diet helps to keep the blood vessels soft and pliable, which in turn reduce the damage caused by Hypertension on the circulatory system. The vitamin C present in lemon juice is a potent antioxidant which protects the body from oxidative stress caused by free radicals.

· Add 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice into 1 cup of warm water.
· Stir well and drink it on an empty stomach every morning after waking up.

3. Onion: This common kitchen ingredient has high concentration of a powerful antioxidant called quercetin, which works to gradually bring your blood pressure to the normal levels.

· Blend half an onion in a mixer-grinder until it becomes a thick paste.
· Add 2 teaspoons of honey and mix thoroughly.
· Take this twice a day for at least 1 week.

4. Beetroot: Regular consumption of beetroot helps to release stress from the blood vessels and aids in proper blood flow. This in turn keeps the blood pressure under control and reduces the symptoms of Hypertension while simultaneously promoting overall cardiovascular health.

· Take 1 small beetroot and half an apple and blend it in a mixer-grinder until it becomes a thick paste.
· Pour the paste in a glass of water.
· Add a little lemon juice for taste and mix well.
· Drink this once in the morning every day.

5. Vegetable juice: Vegetables like carrots, spinach and parsley can play a vital role in keeping your blood pressure under control. These vegetables can also help maintain your overall health.

· Put 1 carrot, a clump of spinach and some parsley in a mixer-grinder and blend it until it becomes a thick paste.
· Add the paste into a glass of water.
· Add a little honey for taste.
· Drink this once every day.

How Can Yoga Help You Fight Hypertension?

While Hypertension is a challenge in itself, what makes it so particularly dangerous is the host of diseases, abnormalities and health conditions it can set the stage for. If left untreated, Hypertension can lead to cardiovascular problems, heart failure, kidney disease, restlessness and even trigger a deadly stroke. There is no doubt that Hypertension is a formidable opponent in your quest for optimal health.

In treating Hypertension, most people think only of pills. Many of them are largely unaware of the tremendous healing power of ancient practices like Yoga. Dealing with chronic problems like Hypertension means making careful changes to your lifestyle. The techniques and wisdom of Yoga, if applied correctly, can help you keep Hypertension under control and lead a healthy life.

How Yoga helps combat Hypertension

The regular practice of Yoga is enormously helpful for people who are suffering from Hypertension. The physical aspect of Yoga Asana aims to increase the strength and flexibility of the body, while Pranayama and Mudra provide the correct mental attitude and support in order to deal with a serious health issue like Hypertension. Research has shown that sustained Yoga practice helps to bring down high blood pressure, improve stamina, promote general health as well mental peace. Moreover, Yoga practice actually compliments the medicines that you have been prescribed. This makes Yoga your ideal companion in the journey away from Hypertension and towards better wellbeing.

Yoga for Hypertension

1. Shavasana: Famous for its somewhat morbid name “Corpse Pose”, this Asana is the best available pose for attaining total rest and deep relaxation. People with Hypertension can benefit enormously from practising this pose after a hard day of work and strenuous activity. This pose gives your body and mind the opportunity to decelerate and shed persistent worries, which in turn helps to bring down the blood pressure.

2. Anuloma Viloma Pranayama: This particular method of alternating breathing is renowned for its ability to help the practitioner calm down, control restlessness and aid in increasing mental focus. The practice of this Pranayama brings relief to strained blood vessels, releases stress, improves physical strength and enhances mental calmness.

3. Yoga Mudra: Specific gestures made using the fingers are called Yoga Mudra. Yoga practitioners usually combine Pranayama and Mudra to prepare the body and mind for an extensive period of meditation and deep relaxation. This makes Yoga Mudra practice vital for people suffering from Hypertension, as they are usually worried about the adverse future complications.

Natural Ways Of Dealing With Hypertension

Many people do not realise just how serious the problem of Hypertension really is. Instead of trying to understand the problem and seek solutions, some people simply ignore the presence of Hypertension. This means that the problem is allowed to grow in magnitude, until it becomes potentially life-threatening.

If you suffer from Hypertension, you must be realising one thing: this problem cannot be solved by just popping a pill twice a day. You need to look closely at your general lifestyle and find out areas of improvement.

One vital aspect of your life is your diet. Which foods you eat on a daily basis have an enormous influence on your blood pressure. Eating foods which help your body maintain a normal blood pressure is an important step in fighting Hypertension and regaining health.

Foods for Hypertension

1. Oatmeal: It is the ideal low-fat and high-fibre food if you want to get a grip on your blood pressure. A bowl of oatmeal in the morning gives you an energetic start to your day. Even though oatmeal is known to be a bland item, you can try to add flavour to it by adding a little honey or fruits like oranges.

2. Banana: While other foods also have potassium, bananas are easier to carry and eat. This makes it ideal for office lunches and as a healthy snack. Moreover, the potassium in bananas gets absorbed more quickly than if taken in the form of supplements.

3. Anchovies: A particular type of fat called Omega-3 fatty acid is found abundantly in fish like anchovies, mackerel and salmon. Regular consumption of this oil has a beneficial effect on people with Hypertension.

4. Spinach: Green leafy vegetables like spinach are rich in potassium, which helps the body control the concentration of sodium in the blood. This helps to gradually moderate the blood pressure. Remember to buy only fresh spinach from the market instead of canned varieties.

5. Potatoes: Potatoes have high concentration of potassium and magnesium, both of which work together to maintain a normal blood pressure. It is also high in fibre, which is a necessary part of a healthy diet.

The healing touch of herbs

While eating these foods regularly can help you fight Hypertension, they cannot resolve the underlying problem. In order to help the body maintain a normal blood pressure for the long term, you need the power of nature on your side. Herbs like Arjuna, Gokharu, Punarnava and Lasun have been used for several centuries in the field of Ayurveda to help manage chronic high blood pressure and regain overall health.

Hypertension – The Hidden Threat To Your Health

What makes Hypertension so dangerous is that the affected persons are usually unaware of its presence. In the early stage of chronic high blood pressure, there are almost no physical indications for the people to pick up. However, they find out when they are suddenly stricken with chronic headache, dizziness, heart disease or even stroke. Given the fact that Hypertension is such a hidden threat to your health and wellbeing, you need to understand this problem in order to fight it.

What is Hypertension?

This is a chronic condition characterised by high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force with which your blood travels within the blood vessels. If you have high blood pressure, then the entire circulatory system is faced with constant stress and strain. Over time, this can cause various health problems, and in some cases can even lead to death.

Identifying Hypertension

People can have high blood pressure for several years without realising. While Hypertension is indeed a stealthy problem, a simple blood pressure test can help you identify it.

Hypertension is usually accompanied by the following symptoms:

 Chronic headache
• Feeling breathless after undertaking moderate activity
• Vertigo
• General restlessness
• Buzzing or hissing sounds in the ear
• Blurred vision
• Frequent nosebleeds
• Losing consciousness for brief periods

What causes Hypertension?

Hypertensive people have a strong genetic disposition towards it. Research has found about 35 genomes which trigger hypertensive symptoms. If one of your parents has Hypertension, then you are at risk as well. Similarly, if you have many people with chronic high blood pressure in your family circle, then you need to be extra careful.

Hypertension can also be caused by bad lifestyle choices. If you lead a sedentary life without adequate physical activity and if you have a tendency to consume salty junk food regularly, then you may face Hypertension in the near future.

What are the risk factors?

• Age: The risk of Hypertension increases with age. People have the highest risk during middle age. Women are more likely to become hypertensive after the age of 65.

• Body weight: People having obesity have a higher risk of suffering from Hypertension than those with normal body weight.

• Level of physical activity: People who are generally inactive tend to have a higher-than-average heart rate, which in turn increases blood pressure.

• Sodium intake: The presence of too much sodium (in the form of salt) in the daily diet increases the risk of having Hypertension.

• Lack of vitamin D: Research has found that people suffering from Hypertension tend to have less vitamin D in their diet.

• Tobacco use: Smokers generally have higher blood pressure than non-smokers.

Associated complications

People with Hypertension have an increased risk of suffering from

• Heart disease, including heart attack
• Heart failure
• Stroke
• Weakened or narrowed blood vessels
• Impaired memory and concentration

What you should do

If you suspect that you have high blood pressure, then you should visit a specialised clinic and consult with experts. The doctor will give you a blood pressure examination, followed by questions regarding your general lifestyle, daily habits, diet and level of physical activity. Yes, Hypertension is deadly. However, it can be managed and controlled using the right medicines and proper diet accompanied by suitable exercise.

Habits Which Hurt Your Health

Habits make you who you are. More specifically, your health and your habits are deeply interlinked. If you cultivate good habits, your health will reap the benefits, which in turn will help you live a long, prosperous and fulfilling life.

Sadly, in today’s fast-paced world, bad habits outnumber the good ones. Unhealthy activities and habits are becoming the norm. More importantly, many people will either ignore the presence of these unhealthy habits or will try to defend them. Instead, let’s look at some of the most prevalent bad habits which negatively affect your health so as to avoid them as much as possible.

Bad habits which damage your health

1. Skipping breakfast: After a long period of rest, your body has very little energy left. This makes eating a proper breakfast highly important. Sadly, many people skip breakfast in order to save time. This means that you will feel lethargic the entire day. The lack of food will impair memory recall and retention while gradually leading to weight gain.

2. Having poor posture: Many people think that “good posture” only applies while one is sitting. Irrespective of whether you are sitting or standing, maintaining good posture is vital for maintaining the general health of the musculoskeletal structure. So, try to observe yourself every 30 minutes to see whether your neck and back are in alignment. Make sure that there is no strain on your arms and legs.

3. Eating junk food: Junk food is unhealthy because firstly, it is not rich in nutrients, and secondly it is known to be addictive. Unlike healthy food, junk food can be found at every street corner. Eating such food increases the risk of suffering from Diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and other severe conditions.

4. Consuming too little water: Dehydration is the state where the body does not get adequate water. This damages all the biological processes which depend on the presence of water, such as blood circulation or digestion. Thus, you should drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. No matter where you go, carry a small water bottle with you and keep yourself hydrated.

5. Living a stressful life: An unhappy lifestyle full of anxiety, worry and stress is a recipe for disaster. Stress negatively affects your blood sugar level, immunity, digestion and cholesterol level. If you feel exposed to a lot of stress every day, then you need to identify the sources of stress in your life. This can help you reduce their influence or eliminate them altogether.

6. Smoking cigarettes: The smoke coming out of a cigarette is a toxic mix of various harmful chemicals. Smoking regularly damages the delicate airways in the lungs and increases the risk of cancer. It also disrupts the body’s ability to manage blood pressure. Millions of people around the world die from smoking-related complications every year. The scientific view is clear: you should avoid smoking if you want to lead a healthy life.

7. Drinking alcohol: Regular consumption of alcohol disturbs your physical and mental balance. Many people use alcoholic drinks as a way to relax after a hard day’s work. However, the long-term harmful effects of alcohol are well documented by researchers. The liver, heart, kidneys and other organs of the body are damaged by alcohol, leading to liver failure, heart disease, gout and even death.

8. Not getting enough sleep: In today’s hectic lifestyle, it is sleep which pays the price. Many people decide to stay past their bedtime in order to watch TV, browse the web or watch a film. Moreover, they don’t maintain a strict sleeping schedule. This disrupts the body’s circadian rhythm and leads to low-quality sleep, which in turn reduces immune alertness and increases blood cholesterol.
