Memory-Boosting Yoga For All!

What would you do if you had a perfect memory? Would you mug up the entire dictionary? Or would you memorize all your appointments and meetings? Or will this make it easier to remember your elaborate passwords?

Coming back to reality, it is a sad fact that there is no such thing as the ‘perfect’ memory. However, if you feel that your memory is inadequate, then you can certainly try to improve it. And in this noble undertaking, it is Yoga which has the capacity to become your most trustworthy companion!

How Yoga improves memory

Regular practice of Yoga improves your capacity to absorb, retain and recall information. Moreover, Yoga also bolsters important mental capacities like focus, cognitive analysis and processing sensory information.

Yogic practices like Asana, Pranayama, Mudra and meditation increase blood circulation, which help to calm the mind and enhance concentration skills. This in turn makes it easier for you to memorize new information. You are less likely to suffer from embarrassing lapses in memory if you practise Yoga properly.

Through the practice of Yoga, you too can improve memory power irrespective of your age, intelligence, education or gender. It is time you took advantage of Yoga to heal, strengthen and improve your innate memory capacity!

Memory-boosting Yoga

Now, let us look at 3 simple techniques which you can practise to further strengthen your memory. Follow them diligently every single day at a fixed time (preferably in the morning) and you will notice positive results in no time.

1. Vrikshasana: It helps stretch up the muscles in the arms, back and legs while simultaneously increasing blood circulation to the brain, thus giving it access to fresh oxygen and nutrients. This ‘tree pose’ is also known to improve concentration and reduce blurred thinking.

2. Bhramari Pranayama: It relieves mental tension, controls anger and reduces the psychological effects of anxiety. This breathing technique is highly effective in bringing stress under control in just a short period. Freed from the wear-and-tear caused by everyday stress and your dull daily routine, you will find it much easier to memorize new information.

3. Yoga Mudra: This meditative hand gesture helps to create a serene atmosphere and pleasant mood, which in turn helps you dig deep into your memory banks for the information you need. As you practise this Mudra every day, you will find that it is becoming easier to recall stored memories. By helping you come to terms with your worries, this Mudra also helps you attain a mature and balanced perspective on your life.
